KIRANITA

“Udah bukan anak sekolah. Belum jadi orang dewasa. Di antaranya, aku nyanyi.”No longer a schoolgirl, not yet a grown-up. In between, I sing.

The story

A girl from a warung in Yogyakarta

Kirana Lestari was born on 14 February 2003 in Yogyakarta, the day the whole world talks about love and she just has a birthday. Her parents run a small warung: mum cooks, dad stands at the counter, and in the evenings dad plays old pop and keroncong on a battered guitar. That is where the first chords and the ear came from.

Money was always just enough. The house was always full of music and the smell of fried rice. An older brother fixes motorcycles in his workshop, two younger sisters share her room, and it was in that room, on a phone, that she recorded her first songs: about school, first love, being scared.

She sent them to friends. Friends sent them to friends. Covers and half-finished verses spread across TikTok. She went to university in Yogyakarta for management, “for mum”, until music outweighed everything else.

At twenty-one she packed one backpack and moved to Jakarta. Tapi aku tidak pulang. RIMBA KOTA, the city jungle, is the diary of those two years.

Who she is

Light, honest, a little too self-aware

Lightness is the key word. She sings about heavy things lightly, answers pain with movement instead of complaint, and laughs at her own overthinking before you can. Off stage she is the friend from next door. On stage she is kirana, a ray of light: she switches on and the room burns.

KIRANITA is a virtual artist. Her voice is generated, her face is drawn. Her stories are written by real people who grew up the same way, and every release says so openly. What you feel when the chorus hits is yours.
